Kinder Week 30 (M/W)

Five weeks left! This makes your kindergarten teacher very sad! I have thoroughly enjoyed your children, and am SO proud of how much they have grown this year. Even though I know they are ready for 1st grade, it will be hard to say goodbye. Thank you for allowing me the chance to be a small part of their lives. You co-teachers (many of you first timers!) have done an AMAZING job this year!

**Our class will be performing the ABC scriptures on stage during Morning Assembly on May 6th.  Please arrive at 8:35 because we will be performing right after the Lord's Prayer and the Pledges at 8:40.  If your child is available to perform on Saturday, May 8th from 10-11 at the Fortis Preview event please let me know ASAP!

Math 
Objectives:
 1.  To be able to order numbers
2.  To recognize and order ordinal numbers (1st - 10th)
3.  To understand different ways to measure time.

  • This week we continue to focus on ordering, and will introduce ordinal numbers. We are also focusing on understanding the different ways to measure time (our day, time, calendar).
  • PLEASE continue reviewing at home the bigger topics we have touched on : adding/subtracting, tens/ones, numbers up to 40, number bonds. Repetition is so important for our young kiddos!
Reading
Objectives:
 1.  To begin reading and accurately blending words and sentences with hard and soft c/g.
2.  To be able to verbalize understanding of the spelling rule applying to the sounds of c/g.
3.  To continue to grow in reading fluency.

  • Remember to begin the lessons by reviewing our current sight words and reading over words/sentences from previous lessons. *Reviewing and repetition is key!
  • This week we focus on the hard and soft sounds of "c" and "g". We learned in AAS that when "c" is followed by e, i, or y, it makes the soft sound. The same rule applies for "g".
  • Please follow up each lesson and mini book review, by having your child read to you, a book at their appropriate level. This should be done at a separate time of the day from their OPG lesson. 
Writing 
Objectives:
1. To be able to form all upper case letters properly on handwriting lines.
2. To be able to form all lower case letters properly on handwriting lines.
3. To be able to  write first and last name properly on handwriting lines.
4. To be able to accurately copy a sentence (using handwriting lines) correctly

  • Keep monitoring proper pencil grip and correct letter formation! Have your student self-correct any backward letter or number! They should be gaining speed and accuracy in their copywork, by this point in the year.
Spelling
Objective

1.  To be able to spell words that have "nk" at the end.

  • We have already been practicing the phonogram nk in reading. In this lesson students will build upon their knowledge to apply the phonogram to spelling.
  • Remember to begin each lesson by going over phonogram cards and rule cards. 
    Geography
    Objectives:
    1.  To be able to sing the names of the Pacific states of the US.
    2. To begin learning to draw the world map.

    • Pacific States will be the last Geography song for the year! Due 4/29
      Memory Work
      Objectives:
      1. To memorize "true, good, and beautiful" pieces and recite to the class.

      • "Above the Bright Blue Sky" is our final poem of the year.
      •    Please take a few minutes each homeschool day to review memory work! (Poem, geography song)
